This educational program is offered in order to meet two (2) of the eight (8) hours of the new requirement for all DEA-registered practitioners to complete 8 hours of training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

This valuable course will be entirely focused on matters specific to Georgia providers, with a focus on the legal responsibilities and perils of the medical board, other governmental enforcement, and what resources are available in Georgia for medication assisted treatment, especially for the under or uninsured patient.

The program agenda includes three sessions of 40 minutes each.

Tools Available to the Georgia Physician for Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). While diagnosing and writing the prescription – even the induction – are relatively easy and low risk to patient and physician, finding the resources to provide the psychiatric/behavioral which are few and far between, and establishing a support system at home can be challenging and time consuming, and ultimately frustrating. This is especially true for those patients who are uninsured or otherwise do not have ready access to this care.

Georgia State Composite Board applicable regulations and enforcement efforts such as 360-3-.02 Unprofessional Conduct Defined including any CME requirements; Georgia Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) as a tool for better management of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).
